Donald Trump signed a trade deal with Japan where Japan must invest $550 billion in the US economy. Trump personally chooses the projects for Japan’s money, and if Japan disagrees, the US can raise tariffs. Japan has 45 days to send funds for each project. Even after this, the US will still impose a 15% tariff on most Japanese goods. A similar agreement exists with the EU. Economists call these deals very favorable for the US and onerous for the other countries.
